A Temporary Happy Place
It’s been a rough summer for most of us who are visual designers and music arrangers. Everything is getting cancelled so there are a lot of band programs electing to not march this fall. I wrote about that in a not so “unpreachy” way last week. I have however (so far) succeeded in holding on to 6 client groups and have as of this writing delivered 4 “socially distanced” (minimum of 3.2 step interval and lots of 4) openers. And I’ve been working on the second tune of one of those 6 today. So that has been a positive for me, anyway.
But I want to briefly write about something that happened just the other day. You see, I purchased a new 2 seater sports car (2020 Fiat 124 Spider) and naturally I’m all about keeping it nice and clean. I made my way over to the local car wash where I usually clean my vehicles. Just so happens the car wash is in an area adjacent to the local high school. Even better…..The high school marching band was having band camp on their parking lot field!!
While I was vacuuming my car, I was humming along to Lady Gaga and the like. I was actually hearing a live marching band! My heart jumped!! Now, I know it was just a few pep tunes, but still it gave me hope to hear a band again. I hadn’t heard any kind of live band since March. I’m a BANDO! That is FAR TOO LONG to go without hearing live band music, if you’re a Bando like me!!
I hope something brightens your day the way that few minutes did mine. It was my temporary happy place. It’s been rough. There will be bright spots and set backs over the next few months, I’m sure. We all have to look for things that brighten our spirits, even if it’s just a high school band playing Lady Gaga. By the way, the license plates on the new car? I C DOTS —Get it?
I love to hear from readers like you. Please leave a comment.—DB
